HP Deskjet D730 Printer - Definitions of Printing Preferences in Windows

Introduction
This document gives information about the settings for printing preferences that are available in the printer driver software in Windows.
 note:
The driver software controls how the product prints, and is installed during the software and driver installation.
Definitions of Printing Preferences in Windows
The settings for printing preferences are available from the Printing Preferences dialog box.
 note:
Depending on the software program, this might be called Preferences, Properties, Print Options, or Print Settings.

Advanced Printing Features
Enabled is the default selection and should not be changed.

Use these options to control how much of the original image extends past the edge of the paper if part of the image that is printed on a borderless photo is cut off.

Provides maximum dpi mode to print high-resolution, sharp images.

It is used to print on both sides of the paper. Select On from the drop-down list to print on both sides of the paper.
Orientation
It is used to select the orientation of the paper. Select Portrait (tall) or Landscape (wide).

Print on both sides
Specifies how the document is to be printed on both sides of the paper.
Off
It is used to print on one side of the page.
Manually
Click this option if there is no two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) installed on the product, or if a duplexer is installed but the duplexer does not support the selected paper size and type.
Left Edge Booklet
Prints the document as a booklet with the binding on the left edge of the booklet. Two pages print on one sheet of paper. The paper can be folded in the middle, forming a booklet, and the pages will be in the correct order.
Right Edge Booklet
Prints the document as a booklet with the binding on the right edge of the booklet. Two pages print on one sheet of paper. The paper can be folded in the middle, forming a booklet, and the pages will be in the correct order.

Resolution
Use this feature to see dpi (dots per inch) details based on the printing shortcut, or print quality, settings selected.
Show preview before printing option
This option enables the Print Preview Utility to display the layout of a document immediately before the print job begins.
Paper saving options

Two-sided printing
It is used to disable or enable two-sided printing.
Flip pages up
Prints on both sides of the paper so the pages can be flipped up like a note book.
Preserve layout
This setting is automatically selected when two-sided printing is enabled.
Pages per sheet
It is used to select the number of pages to print per sheet.
Page order
It is used to select the order and placement of pages on the sheet when printing more than one page per sheet.
Booklet layout
It is used to select the layout of the booklet. Select Off, left-binding, or right-binding.
Off
Turns off booklet printing.
Left binding
Prints the document as a booklet with the binding on the left edge of the booklet. Two pages print on one sheet of paper. The paper can be folded in the middle, forming a booklet, and the pages will be in the correct order.
Right binding
Prints the document as a booklet with the binding on the right edge of the booklet. Two pages print on one sheet of paper. The paper can be folded in the middle, forming a booklet, and the pages will be in the correct order.

Definition
Align the Print Cartridges
Aligns the ink cartridges for the optimum print quality.
Clean the Print Cartridge(s)
Cleans the ink cartridge(s) when print quality has decreased noticeably or when recommended by the troubleshooting instructions.
Print a Test Page
Prints a test page to verify that the product is working correctly.
Back of Page Smear Cleaning
Eliminates ink marks on the back of the printed document
Paper Feed Cleaning
Removes the paper dust that causes paper feed problems.
Toolbox - Estimated ink levels

The Estimated Ink Level tab in the HP Photosmart Toolbox shows a graphic estimate of how much ink is left in the black and the color print cartridge. This is only an estimate, the actual ink levels might vary.
Ink level status indicator
Status of ink level
Check mark
Indicates that the level of ink in the ink cartridge is acceptable.
Triangle with an exclamation point
Indicates that the ink level is getting low. Have a new ink cartridge available.
A large letter X
Indicates that the ink cartridge is empty. Replace the cartridge.

Color Options

Prints the document in color.
Print in grayscale

High quality
When printing in grayscale, this setting uses the color cartridge for the optimal range of grays.
Black ink only
Prints document using the black cartridge only.
Help
This displays general help topics for the printer driver.
