ISSUE: An out of paper/paper jam condition is indicated by the HP DeskJet 1600C/1600CM printer when using letterhead or colored paper.
SOLUTION: The paper sensor in the HP DeskJet 1600C/1600CM printer is located on the bottom of the carriage assembly. As the paper is pulled into the printer, the carriage makes one pass across the paper to verify the location and size of the paper. If a letterhead or dark colored paper is used the paper sensor will not find anything, or misreads the paper size and will not print in the region delineated by the letterhead. This is due to the fact that the printer uses an optical sensor.
This symptom should not occur if plain white paper is used.
note:The paper sensor only checks the top of the page, so if the letterhead covers only a portion of the left-top margin, the printer may behave as if the paper size is narrower than it really is.
