HP Jornada 928 Wireless Digital Assistant - Troubleshooting Basic Problems

Problem
Diagnosis/Remedy
HP Jornada does not turn on when not connected to AC power.
Power is too low to run your Pocket PC. Connect to AC power, and then turn on your HP Jornada. (Charge the batteries regularly to avoid running out of battery power.)
Batteries run out of power quickly.
You are using your HP Jornada in ways that drain power quickly. Use external power to charge and power your device whenever possible, especially when listening to music or using CompactFlash accessories. Using wireless LAN, GPRS, and GSM functions can also drain the batteries very quickly. Turn off these functions when they are not in use.
-Or-
Alerts and notifications are causing your hp Jornada to turn on, even when you are not using it. Check the "wake up sources" under When device is off in the Power Preferences page in HP profiles.

HP Jornada automatically shuts down/suspends.
Power is too low. When a critically low power condition is encountered, the HP Jornada initiates a safety shutdown. Connect to AC power and charge the batteries.
-Or-
Auto-suspend activated. To conserve power, the HP Jornada auto-suspends if it is idle for one minute immediately after power is turned on. It also auto-suspends if it is continuously idle for five minutes.
-Or-
HP Jornada is locked up. Connect to external power, and reset your HP Jornada. (See "Resetting your HP Jornada" in the user's guide.) (Caution: You may lose any unsaved data when resetting.)
HP Jornada locks up when running applications, or it runs slowly.

Note: Check to ensure that the device is not running low on power, and avoid running several applications at the same time. Use HP task switcher to close applications that are not in use.
Phone ringing volume is too soft/loud.
Ring volume is not set properly. The phone ringing volume and the volume of PDA alerts and notifications are controlled separately. Use the Alert page of the HP profiles application to set the ringing volume for the phone.
Unable to send SMS.
Messages not addressed to mobile phone. When you send SMS messages to contacts saved in your Pocket Outlook Contacts database, be sure to use the number in the Mobile field. The contact must be selected (highlighted in blue) before it can be sent.
HP Jornada does not turn on or display appears to be off, even though power is on.
The display is off. Press the power button to turn on the display.
-Or-
There is not enough light to see the display. Turn on lights or move to a room with more light. Use HP profiles to increase the brightness of the display. Change HP profiles to use the light sensor to automatically turn on the backlight in dark conditions.
-Or-
The device has been reset. After a reset, the screen remains blank for approximately three seconds after pressing the power button.
-Or-
HP Jornada has run out of power. Charge the device by connecting to AC power.
Difficult to install or run software from previous HP handheld.
Software that runs on previous hp handheld devices may not run on your HP Jornada 920 series wireless digital assistant. Because the HP Jornada 920 series wireless digital assistant uses a different processor and a new version of the Pocket PC operating system, software built for previous-generation Pocket PCs (such as HP Jornada 430, 420, 520, 540, 560, or 570 series) may not run on the HP Jornada 920 series. Check with the software vendor for an upgrade or newer version that will run on the HP Jornada 920 series.
Inaccurate response to stylus tap.
The calibration of the touch screen may be off. Realign the touch screen. Press and hold the hp home menu hot key to display the HP quick menu, and then use the navigation pad and action button to launch the Align Screen control panel.
Unable to locate files in CompactFlash memory in applications.
Files must be stored in the My Documents folder on the CompactFlash card. Create the My Documents folder using File Explorer, and move files into this folder.
Data is lost.
HP Jornada has run out of power. Restore data from a backup file on your desktop PC or a CompactFlash card.

Factory default settings have been restored. Restore data from a backup file on your desktop PC or a CompactFlash card.
