HP Jetdirect Print Servers - Unable to Print to an HP Deskjet 1220c or HP Deskjet 1180c Series Printer

Issue:
Unable to print successfully to an HP Deskjet 1220c or HP Deskjet 1180C printer using an external HP Jetdirect device. This occurs with different protocols and ports. A generic/text-only driver will print successfully.
Workaround
Change the HP Jetdirect Parallel Handshaking settings to Centronics.
 note:
Changing the Parallel Handshaking of the HP Jetdirect to Centronics will disable Macintosh Appletalk communications; if you have Macintosh clients on the network this could cause a loss of communication from that client to the HP Jetdirect Print Server.
Using the embedded Web server (EWS) to change the parallel handshaking
 note:
The HP Jetdirect firmware must be x.08.32 or higher to change parallel handshaking with EWS.
  1. Type the IP address of the HP Jetdirect into the "Address or Location" field of an Internet browser. (The EWS supports current versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.)
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click Configuration.
  4. Click Centronics under the "Preferred Parallel Mode."
  5. Click Apply.
Using HP Web Jetadmin to change the parallel handshaking
  1. Open HP Web Jetadmin and select the print server name in the list of available devices or use the "Quick Find" field to find a specific IP address.
  2. Select to highlight the printer and click Open Device or double-click the printer.
  3. Click Configuration.
  4. Click Device.
  5. Click Centronics (Jetdirect EX) next to Parallel Mode.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Unplug the power from the HP Jetdirect and plug it back in.
Using HP Jetadmin to change the parallel handshaking
  1. Open HP Jetadmin (obsolete) and click the print server name in the list of available devices.
  2. Click Modify from the list of options under the heading "Device."
  3. Click Next until the last screen appears, labeled "HP Jetdirect/Ex Settings."
  4. Change the "HP Jetdirect/Ex Setting, Parallel Mode: Speed of Setting" to Centronics.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Unplug the power from the HP Jetdirect and plug it back in.
