Samsung Laser Printers - Using the Direct Printing Utility

This chapter explains how to use the Direct Printing Utility to print PDF files without open the files.
note:
  • This feature is not supported for SL-M382xD models.
  • The Direct Printing Utility might not be available depending on model or optional goods
  • Available for Windows OS users only.
  • Optional memory or a mass storage device (HDD) need to be installed on the printer to print files using this program, see Variety feature.
  • Users cannot print PDF files that are restricted. Deactivate the printing restriction feature and retry printing.
  • Users cannot print PDF files that are restricted by a password. Deactivate the password feature, and retry printing.
  • Whether or not a PDF file can be printed using the Direct Printing Utility program depends on how the PDF file was created.
  • The Direct Printing Utility program supports PDF version 1.7 and below. For higher versions, The file must be open to print it.

What is the direct printing utility?

The Direct Printing Utility is a program that sends a PDF file directly to the printer to print without having to open the file. It sends data through the Windows spooler using the port of the printer driver. It only supports PDF format.
To install this program, download the software from the Samsung website, then unpack and install it. Go to: http://www.samsung.com > find the product > Support or Downloads.

Printing

There are several ways users can print using the Direct Printing Utility.

From the direct printing utility window

  1. From the Start menu select Programs or All Programs > Samsung Printers.
    1. For Windows 8: From Charms, select Search > Apps.
    2. For Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016: From task bar, type in Samsung Printers in Search input area. Press the Enter key. Or, From the Start icon, select All apps > Samsung Printers.
  2. Press the Direct Printing Utility.
  3. Select the printer from the Select Printer drop-down list and click Browse.
  4. Select the appropriate file to print, then click Open. The file is added in the Select Files section.
  5. Customize the printer settings as needed.
  6. Click Print. The selected PDF file is sent to the printer.

Using the right-click menu

  1. Right-click on the appropriate PDF file to print, then select Direct Printing. The Direct Printing Utility window appears with the PDF file is added.
  2. Select the appropriate printer to use.
  3. Customize the printer settings as needed.
  4. Click Print. The selected PDF file is sent to the printer.
