By default, if there is an internet connection,
HP Sure Sense Basic will automatically receive an updated Allow list that will not flag the Microsoft Edge update.
HP Sure Sense Basic will check for updates after the computer boots and additionally at intermittent intervals.
Even if the notifications display, Microsoft Edge can update once
HP Sure Sense Basic receives it's Allow list update from the internet/cloud.
The Threat Prevented notification for Microsoft Edge files (msedge.exe, msedgewebview2.exe) can be dismissed.
The File Restore Failed notifications for msedge.exe and msedgewebview2.exe can be resolved by creating the directory where the files were quarantined. The created directory is unique to each Microsoft Edge installation attempt. The path to create the directory can be determined from the
HP Sure Sense Basic "File Restore Failed" Windows notification for msedge.exe or msedgewebview2.exe.
To resolve the "File Restore Failed" issue, perform the following:
Create the exact directory path displayed in the File Restore Failed notification for the Microsoft Edge files.
Example: If the notification displays C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Temp\source26440_766634432\89.0.774.45\msedge.exe, use Windows File Explorer to create the path.
note:
The exact directory names under the Temp folder may be different in each instance. Always use the directory shown in the File Restore Failed notification.
Step-by-Step Instructions
For step-by-step instructions on creating the directory structure, perform the following:
-
Navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge directory.
-
Create a folder named Temp and then open the newly created folder.
-
Create a new folder named source26440_766634432 and then open the new folder.
note:
This directory will be different for each instance.
-
Create a new folder named 89.0.774.45.
note:
This directory will be different for each instance.
-
After the directory structure is created,
HP Sure Sense Basic will restore the Microsoft Edge files on the Allow list automatically. If this does not happen automatically, restart the computer.
-
After the files are restored, it is okay to remove the directory structure created.
