HP Deskjet 450 Series Printer - Printing Digital Camera Photographs

Printing digital camera photographs
If the digital camera uses a Type I CompactFlash (CF) card, the card can be inserted into the printer to print photos. The camera must support Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) version 1 or 1.1 to print directly from the CF card to the printer. Review the digital camera’s documentation to see if it supports DPOF files.
Photos can also be downloaded from the CF card onto the computer’s hard disk, and they can be printed from a software application such as HP Photo Printing Software. To print photographs on photo paper, see document BPD50466 - Paper Handling, Media Specifications, and Supported Media Sizes.
 note:
Only Type I CompactFlash cards are compatible with the HP Deskjet 450 printer. The printer cannot accommodate any form of Type II CF card, even though some User's Guides, Datasheets, etc. claim that Type II CF cards are supported.
To print from a CompactFlash card
DPOF files are files created using a digital camera. DPOF files are stored on the CF card and contain information such as which images are selected and how many of each image are to be printed or saved. The printer can read a DPOF file from the CF card so that it is not necessary to use the printer software to reselect the images to print or save. To print using a DPOF file:
  1. Select the images to print by creating a DPOF file on the digital camera. The settings that can be specified (such as number of copies) are specific to the camera. See the digital camera’s documentation for details on how to create a DPOF file.
  2. For Windows, if the Toolbox is installed, open it and click the Printer Status tab. Click Configure Print Settings, and then in the dialog box specify paper type, size, and print quality.
For Macintosh, open the HP Inkjet Utility and click Configure Printer Settings.
     note:
If the Toolbox or HP Inkjet Utility are not installed, print a configuration page to check printer media settings for direct printing. This information will verify whether the correct media size and type are loaded before printing. See document BPD50493 - Printing Internal Tests.
  3. Turn on the printer.
  4. Insert the CF card containing the DPOF file into the CF card slot on the printer. Make sure the front of the card faces away from the printer and the edge with pinholes is placed into the printer first. The Resume LED will blink after a few seconds if there is a DPOF file on the card.
     caution:
If the edge with pinholes is not inserted into the printer, the CF card and the printer can be damaged.

  5. Press the Resume button to print the images. The printer will automatically recognize the DPOF file on the CF card and print the images according to the specifications that are set in the file.
    -or-
Press the Cancel button if printing directly from the CF card is not desired. If the computer is connected to the printer via USB or parallel, the CF card appears as a drive in Windows Explorer. The photographs can then be opened and printed with the software application of choice.
     caution:
Do not remove the CF card until the print job is completed. Otherwise the print job will be canceled.
     note:
Selecting Typical Installation when installing the printer driver (see documents BPD50459 - Driver Installation in Windows and BPD50483 - Setting up the Printer for Windows and Macintosh) lets the computer read the CF card as a physical disk drive. The photo files can then be accessed and printed with the software of choice. See document BPD50470 - README File for more details.
