  1. Turn the printer off and then back on to clear the error message.
  2. If the message persists, verify that the hard disk drive, or the solid state drive, is installed correctly and all connections are secure by removing and reinstalling the hard disk drive.
Instructions for checking if the hard disk drive is installed correctly:
  1. Do the following:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect all external cables and accessories attached to the formatter.
    3. Disconnect the power cable.
      warning:
To avoid damage to the printer, turn the printer off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the printer.
  2. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the formatter, and then pull the formatter out of the printer.

  3. Remove the hard disk drive.
      caution:
    ESD-sensitive part.
    1. Flex the plastic tab (callout 1) on the hard disk assembly (HDD) toward the hard disk drive to disengage a tab underneath the formatter PCA.
    2. Slide the hard disk drive (callout 2) in the direction toward the plastic tab to remove it.
      note:
Depending on the specific printer model and formatter the hard disk drive might be located in a different location and in a different alignment.
The removal and replacement steps are same for the hard disk drive.
  4. Reinstall the hard disk drive.
  5. Place the hard disk drive on the formatter PCA, and then slide it towards the connector until it is fully seated in the connector.
Make sure that the HDD is correctly positioned on the formatter PCA. The HDD must lay flat on the formatter PCA.
When reinstalling the hard disk drive ensure that the drive is fully seated and aligned correctly in the connecter.
  6. Reinstall the formatter in the printer. Screw the two thumbscrews tightly into place. Reattach all cables, and turn the printer on.
  7. If the error persists, the disk drive needs to be replaced. Contact HP technical support.
