HP Designjet Printers - AutoCAD 13 C4 for Windows, "Unable to Find Configuration for AutoCAD" Error Message When Installing Hp-gl/2 Driver v 3.1
When installing the HP-GL/2 Driver for AutoCAD Releases 10, 11, 12 and 13 (v3.1) into AutoCAD 13 C4 for windows, the error, Unable to find configuration for AutoCAD, appears.
note:The HP-GL/2 version 3.1 Driver for AutoCAD Releases 10,11,12 and 13 was not designed for a Windows 95 or Windows NT environment. This problem has been resolved with driver version 3.2.
First of all, the HP-GL/2 driver for AutoCAD looks for the AutoCAD Icon in the AutoCAD program group. It then looks at the path that the Icon is pointing to in the properties/target section. It then follows that path and looks for the ACAD.CFG file, which is usually in the \R13\WIN directory. Once it finds the ACAD.CFG file, the install program will give you a choice to select a version of AutoCAD from a list of all versions found. (Usually only one version is installed.) Once the version is selected, the driver proceeds with copying the files and finishing the installation process.
When installing AutoCAD 13 C4 for Windows under Windows NT or Windows 95, it creates a file called ACADNT.CFG in the \R13\WIN directory. The problem is that the 3.1 driver is only looking for a file called ACAD.CFG. The way to get around this problem is to temporarily change the file name of ACADNT.CFG to ACAD.CFG. After the installation is successful, rename the ACAD.CFG back to ACADNT.CFG and AutoCAD will run like normal.
note:If AutoCAD is run before the ACAD.CFG is renamed back to ACADNT.CFG, a message that AutoCAD has not been configured yet will come up. If the error is ignored, AutoCAD will create a new ACADNT.CFG file that will not contain any of the important information that the driver needs.
