HP Designjet 650C Printers - Front Panel Messages

Worded messages indicate that a user error or an internal error has occurred. Some messages require action to clear, and others are only displayed until the next operation is performed. Use the table below to match the message displayed by the printer and all possible actions that may eliminate the message:
Message
Action
Alignment error Continue
The printer experienced an internal alignment failure. The window was lifted, or the front panel was used to perform some other action while pen alignment was proceeding. Press the "down" arrow to continue. Re-run pen alignment.
Calibrate error Continue
The calibration plot was loaded incorrectly, and it could not be measured. Press the DOWN ARROW to continue; then, reload the calibration plot. Follow the front panel instructions.
Edge not found Reload media
The printer could not find the edge of the media during the loading procedure, using the optical sensor on the carriage. Note which carriage side failed (left or right). Check the leading edge of the media for unevenness; cut a straight edge, if necessary, and reload. Be sure to position the right edge along the perforated line on the entry platen when loading. Clean the roller. Check the line sensor.
Error lowering bail
The bail sensor did not properly detect the bail position. Check for an obstruction under the bail or bail flag; or, if the cutting carriage is not pushed all the way to the right, check the drop sense PCA and cable connectors.
Message
Action
Lower lever Continue
The lever at the right of the HP Designjet 650C printer was lifted while the processor was busy. Lower the lever to continue.
Media too small
The media loaded for accuracy calibration or pen alignment is too small. Reload the appropriate media.
Mispositioned Reload roll
The roll is mispositioned. Unload the roll media. Open the roll cover and push the media roll all the way to the right so that it is flush against the media stop on the roll core. Reload the media with the right edge no more than 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) from the perforated line on the entry plate. Remove any ink deposits on the drive roller. Ink deposits are reflective and can give false indications for detecting media edges.
Mispositioned
Reload sheet
The sheet is mispositioned. Remove it and reload it with the right edge no more than 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) from the perforated line on the entry platen.
MlO data error
The modular interface is configured incorrectly. Press the ENTER button to clear the message from the front panel display. Recheck the MIO configuration settings.
Message
Action
MlO error Comm. break
The flow of data from the computer to the printer was prematurely stopped (for example, by switching OFF the computer before all of the data was sent). Press the ENTER button to clear the message from the front panel display.
MIO error Handshake
The modular interface is configured incorrectly. Press the ENTER button to clear the message from the front panel display. Check the handshake settings in the printer's front panel, in the hardware configuration, and in the application software configuration. Adjust the settings as needed to ensure compatibility.
Out of memory Data was lost
The current plot is too large for the printer's buffer. Additional memory must be installed to plot the drawing.
Pen (C, Y, M, K) not loaded
Pen checking is ON and an error has been detected. Press the UP ARROW if you want to load the pen. Press the DOWN ARROW if you want to continue without loading the pen.
Remove media Lower lever
An attempt to load media was made while the media load lever at the right of the printer was raised. Remove the media, lower the lever, and reload the media with the lever down.
Message
Action
Roll misaligned
The roll media is skewed. Unload the roll media. Open the roll cover. Reload the roll and push the media roll all the way to the right so that it is flush against the media stop on the roll core. Reload, making sure that the left/right media edges are even with the left/right roll core edges.
RS-232 error Baud, parity
The RS-232-C interface is configured incorrectly. Press the ENTER button to clear the message from the front panel display. Check the baud rate and parity settings in the printer's front panel, in the hardware configuration, and in the application software configuration. Adjust the settings as needed to ensure compatibility. This error can also indicate a framing error caused by the wrong number of start/stop bits sent or the wrong data word length. The printer expects 1 start bit, 7 data bits, 1 parity bit, and 1 stop bit.
RS-232 error Handshake
The RS-232-C interface is configured incorrectly. Press the ENTER button to clear the message from the front panel display. Check the handshake settings in the printer's front panel, in the hardware configuration, and in the application software configuration. Adjust the settings as needed to ensure compatibility.
Service pens
Pen checking is ON, and an error has been detected. Press the Continue UP ARROW if you want to service the pens (replace or reseat them). Press the DOWN ARROW if you want to continue without servicing the pens.
Message
Action
Sheet misaligned Reload sheet
Sheet media is skewed. Remove it and reload it so that the left/right edges being loaded into the printer are square. The leading edge must be straight.
Switch power off Check media path
A servo shutdown has occurred in the X-axis. The drive roller cannot move or the roll feed spindle cannot freely rotate. The printer may be jammed with media. Switch the printer's power OFF. Check the media path and clear it if necessary. If necessary, troubleshoot the X-axis mechanics and circuitry.
Switch power off Check pen path
A servo shutdown has occurred in the Y-axis. The pen carriage cannot move. The printer may be jammed with media. Switch the printer's power OFF. Check the pen path and clear it, if necessary. If necessary, troubleshoot the Y-axis mechanics and circuitry.
