Blinking Lights on the HP Deskjet 6940, 6940dt, and 6943 Printer Series

Blinking lights
The lights on the front of the HP product can be on, off, or blinking (flashing), depending on the status of the product. The lights indicate product status and are useful for diagnosing printing problems.

The following sections describe the most common combinations of blinking lights, followed by solutions for each combination. Find the blinking lights pattern you are experiencing, and then follow the steps to resolve the issue.
Issue: The Power light blinks
In this normal condition, the following light pattern displays on the control panel:
  • Power light: Blinking
  • Resume light: Off
  • Network light: Off or on, depending on network connection
  • Print Cartridge status lights: Off

Issue: The Resume light blinks and a message might display on the computer
In this error condition, the following light pattern displays on the control panel:
  • Power light: On
  • Resume light: Blinking
  • Network light: Off or on, depending on network connection
  • Print Cartridge status lights: Off

How do I resolve this issue? The following sections describe the most common messages that might display on the computer in combination with a blinking Resume light. To resolve the issue, find the message that displays on your computer (from the following choices), and then expand that section for solutions.
Issue: The Power light and one or both of the Print Cartridge status lights are on
The following light pattern displays on the control panel:
  • Power light: On
  • Resume light: Off
  • Network light: Off or on, depending on network connection
  • Print Cartridge status lights: On

The left Print Cartridge status light represents the tri-color cartridge that is installed in the left side of the carriage. The right Print Cartridge status light represents the black or photo cartridge that is installed on the right side of the carriage.
Issue: The Power light is on and one or both of the Print Cartridge status lights blink
