HP DraftMaster MX and MX Plus Plotters - A Quick Reference Guide

Demonstration plot

The demonstration plot checks most of the mechanical and electrical workings of the plotter. The plot verifies a correctly functioning plotter.
HP DraftMaster MX plotter
  1. Load three fiber-tip pens in the carousel and configure the carousel to use fiber-tip pens. Suggested pen colors: Stall 1 = Black, stall 2 = Red, stall 3 = Blue.
  2. Load a sheet of HP plotter paper.
  3. Press the Next Display button until the Clear menu displays as shown below.
  4. Press the Demo function button (f4). Press f3 to display the user letter. Then, press Start (f4) to begin the plot. Current settings for the user selected apply to the Demo plot.
HP DraftMaster MX + Plotter
  1. Load a carousel with four fiber-tip pens in stalls one through four and load a sheet of HP plotter paper.
  2. From the Main Menu, use the Up or Down arrow keys to display Demo Plot.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Use the Up or Down arrow keys to choose the User. Current settings for the user selected apply to the Demo plot.
  5. Press the Up Arrow button (Y) to the Start Demo plot? message to begin the demonstration plot.

The factory default serial settings are the default for each user.
The factory default serial settings are recommended for most PC compatible software. Check software documentation for appropriate serial settings if necessary.
If uncertain of the current settings and you wish to return the plotter back to the factory default menu:
HP DraftMaster MX Plotter
Hold down the Center Cursor Control button while turning the plotter on.
HP DraftMaster MX + Plotter
Choose Factory Reset from the Plotter Setup menu.

Plotter setup for Windows

Windows 3.1 and 3.11
  1. Make certain of the setting of the plotter's serial port to the factory defaults.
  2. In Windows, select Main, Control Panel, and Ports.
  3. Highlight the Port Icon and then select the Settings button.
  4. Set the port parameters to match the plotter default settings (i.e., 9600 Baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and Hardware flow control).
  5. Open the Microsoft (R) Write program (ships with Window and is usually in the Accessories group).
  6. Type a few words in the work area of Write; then, select File, Print, and OK.
The plotter should respond almost immediately and print the words just typed.
Windows 95
  1. Make sure that the plotter's serial port settings are set to the factory defaults.
  2. In Windows, select Start, Settings, and Printers.
  3. Place your cursor on the plotter icon and select with the right mouse button.
  4. Now select Properties and then select the Details tab. Select the Port Settings button.
  5. Set the port parameters to match the plotter settings (that is, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and hardware flow control).
  6. Open the Microsoft WordPad program (ships with Windows and is usually in the Accessories group).
  7. Type a few words in the work area of WordPad and then click File, Print, and OK.
The plotter should respond almost immediately and print the words just typed.

Windows Driver Package is available on 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch diskettes.
