HP Printers - Scanning from the Computer with HP Scan (Windows)

This document is for HP multifunction inkjet and LaserJet printers released in 2010 and later with HP Scan software installed on a Windows computer.
The full feature Windows driver and software package for many HP printers includes HP Scan software. Change scan quality and color settings, attach scans to email messages, set a destination folder to save scans to, and more.
With HP Scan installed, you can start scan jobs from the printer control panel. If the software is not installed, the computer cannot process scanned items and the scan button or icon on the printer is disabled.

Scan a document or photo with HP Scan
Use HP Scan to start scan jobs from the computer and change size, color, and quality settings.
  1. Place the document or photo printed side down on the scanner glass, then close the scanner lid.
If your printer has an automatic document feeder (ADF), you can use it to scan multiple page documents at one time. Do not load photos in the ADF to prevent damage to the photos and the printer.
  2. Search Windows for HP Scan, then click HP Scan in the list of results.
     note:
If HP Scan does not display, see the Frequently asked questions in this document for steps to install the software.
  3. Click one of the shortcuts, then change any of the default settings in the drop-down menus in the right side of the window.
  4. Select Show scan preview or Show Viewer After Scan to preview and make additional edits to the scan before saving it.
  5. Click Advanced Settings or More to change settings such as quality, color, and default scan destination folder.
  6. Click Scan.
The printer scans the item, then the scan preview window opens on the computer.
  7. If necessary, double-click the thumbnail image of the scanned item, then change any additional settings.
  8. Click Save.
    The Save as windows opens.
  9. Change the file name if necessary, select the folder you want to save the scan to, then click Save.
