For printers released before 2020, a claim code is used to add your network-connected printer to your HP Smart account. The
claim code automatically prints or displays on the printer control panel after enabling Web Services.
Note:
HP+ printers and printers released after 2020 no longer need you to enter a claim code. Your printer is automatically claimed
to your HP account during the setup. Go to 123.hp.com to download the HP Smart app, and then set up your printer.
A claim code prompt typically displays during printer setup and/or HP Instant Ink enrollment. For printers that support HP
ePrint, manually claim the printer on the HP Smart website to customize the HP ePrint settings.
Use the steps in this document to turn on Web Services, find the printer claim code, and use the code to add your printer
to your HP Smart account.
Turn on Web Services
Turn on Web Services from the printer control panel or advanced settings menu to enable web-connected printing services and
get a printer claim code.
Turn on Web Services from the printer control panel (touchscreens only)
Use the touchscreen control panel to enable Web Services.

Make sure your printer is connected to the internet. Web Services does not support printers connected with only a USB cable.
-
On the control panel, touch the ePrint icon .
If an HP ePrint icon is not available, touch Setup ( or ), and then look for a Web Services menu.
-
On the HP ePrint screen, touch Set Up or Continue.

If the information page does not print or a claim code does not display on the screen, touch Print Info or Print on the Web Services Summary screen. If the issue persists, continue to the next step for alternative methods to get the code.
Turn on Web Services from the printer EWS
Use the HP Smart app or an internet browser to open the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS), and then turn on Web Services.
-
Choose one of the following methods to open the advanced settings for your printer.

If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
-
From the Web Services Setup page, click Continue or Enable, and then follow the instructions to turn it on.
Clicking Continue on the Web Services tab (most HP printers)

If the information page does not print, click Print Info Page or Print Information Sheet under Settings. If the issue persists, continue to the next step for alternative methods to get the code.
Find the printer claim code
After enabling Web Services, an information page prints that lists the HP ePrint email address and printer claim code.
Find the printer claim code on the information printout or on the printer control panel display. The claim code is a string of text and letters unique
to your printer, typically listed underneath the ePrint email address.
Examples of the information page and the claim code location
If the information page does not print after enabling Web Services, use an alternative method to get the code.
-
Using the Web Services Summary menu (touchscreens only): Touch the ePrint icon on the control panel.
From the Web Services Summary screen, touch Print Info or Print to print a new information page.
If the page still does not print, find the ePrint email address on the screen, and then write down everything listed before
@hpeprint.com. For some printers, this string of text and letters is the claim code. Enter this value as the claim code in the HP Smart
app or HP Easy Start setup window.
-
Using a Web Services Information page: Use your printer control panel to print a Web Services Information page with the claim code. Refer to the printer user guide
for available reports and how to print them.
