HP Notebook PCs - AMD Multicore Processor Causes BCCode 0x124 Machine Check Message
This issue pertains to HP Notebook PCs sold with Windows XP or Windows Vista.
The notebook unexpectedly stops responding and displays BCCode 0x124 Machine Check error, indicating that the AMD processor has reported a fault. This issue occurs after the notebook is upgraded to the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. Additionally, this issue typically occurs after a forced shutdown on the subsequent boot.
Clean notebook air vents and update the BIOS
The abrupt power off of a notebook computer may be due to a thermal event (overheating) or other hardware failures. HP also recommends updating the notebook BIOS to the latest version that supports Windows 7 from the Software and Driver Downloads page.
