This issue pertains to HP Notebook PCs sold with Windows XP or Windows Vista.

This issue occurs after the notebook is upgraded to the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. Additionally, this issue typically occurs after a forced shutdown on the subsequent boot.
Clean notebook air vents and update the BIOS
The abrupt power off of a notebook computer may be due to a thermal event (overheating) or other hardware failures. HP strongly recommends the cleaning of the air vent on the notebook to help keep the temperature within normal working range. See: HP Notebook PCs - Reducing Heat and Fan Noise by Cleaning Air Vents.
HP also recommends updating the notebook BIOS to the latest version that supports Windows 7 from the Software and Driver Downloads page.
