Replacing Cartridges for HP Deskjet 1000, 2000, 3000, and Deskjet Ink Advantage 2010 Printer Series

This document is for the HP Deskjet 1000, 2000, 3000, and Deskjet Ink Advantage 2010 Printer Series.
To prevent print quality issues, replace the ink cartridges when they are low or out of ink.
Ink cartridges types
Consult the following table to identify the correct ink cartridges for your country/region. This table is for HP Deskjet 1000, 2000, and 3000 printers.

Visit HP SureSupply to check ink cartridge compatibility or purchase replacement ink cartridges.
  1. Go to the HP SureSupply website.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then make sure the country/region location is correct.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to order new ink cartridges or check ink cartridge compatibility with your printer.
Genuine HP ink cartridges can also be purchased from other retailers.
The following video demonstrates how to replace a cartridge.

Step one: Load paper
Whenever you install a new ink cartridge, the HP product prompts you to load paper so you can complete an ink cartridge alignment. Follow these steps to load paper in the product.
  1. If the product is not already on, press the Power button () to turn it on.
  2. Lift the paper tray.

  3. Lower the output tray, and then pull the tray extender out.

  4. Slide the paper width guide to its outermost position.

  5. Load unused, plain white, U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the tray with the short edge forward and the print side up.

  6. Slide the paper width guide to the right until it stops at the edge of the paper but does not bend the paper.

Step two: Remove and replace the cartridge
  1. If the product is not already on, press the Power button () to turn it on.
  2. Open the ink cartridge door, and then wait for the carriage to move to the center of the product.

  3. Press down lightly on the ink cartridge that you want to replace to release it, and then pull it toward you out of its slot.

  4. Remove the new ink cartridge from its package.

  5. Use the pink pull tab to remove the plastic protective tape from the new ink cartridge.

     caution:
    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Also, do not re-tape the cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  6. Slide the new cartridge into its slot until it snaps firmly into place.

    • The tri-color ink cartridge () goes in the slot on the left
    • The black ink cartridge () goes in the slot on the right
  7. Repeat these steps to replace the other ink cartridge, if necessary.
  8. Close the ink cartridge door.

Step three: Align the new ink cartridge
  1. Open the printer software.
  2. Double-click Printer Actions, and then double-click Maintenance Tasks. The HP Toolbox opens.
  3. Click the Device Services tab, and then click Align Ink Cartridges. The printer aligns the cartridges and then prints an alignment page.
