HP Electrostatic 7600 Series Plotter - Plots Appear Faded
The entire plot on an HP 7600 Series Electrostatic Plotter comes out faint, or the first 12 inches are faint and the rest of the plot appears normal.
If the entire plot is faint or thin lines are dropping out completely, try the following suggestions to resolve the print quality problem. Refer to your plotters User’s Guide for more details.
Clean the writing head.
Replace media and/or toner. (Toner and media have an 18-month shelf life. If shelf life has been exceeded, you may experience faded plots.)
Ensure that the room’s relative humidity is between 30 and 80 percent (optimal humidity is 50 to 60 percent).
If the problem is only with the first 12 inches of the plot, the problem is that the relative humidity is low. Ensure that the rooms relative humidity is between 30 and 80 percent (optimal is 50 to 60 percent). On the Model 355 with Firmware revision 317, a media advance option has been added to advance the media (when enabled) 30 cm (about 12 in) before plotting on monochrome plots after the plotter has been idle five minutes or longer.
This advance option is enabled by pressing the Reset button within one minute after the plotter has been initialized and the Status display appears. This media advance option does not function in the "color" mode of the Model 355 since media advance is already part of the "color" plot process. (The Firmware revision number can be found by entering the PLOTTER STATS menu in the DIAGNOSTICS Menu)
