The printer accepts data from graphics, CAD, and other software programs supporting the following languages:
  • Adobe (R) PostScript (R) Level 2.
  • Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL), a vector language.
  • HP-GL/2, an enhanced version of HP-GL.
  • Hewlett-Packard Raster Transfer Language (HP-RTL) a raster language.
  • Printer Job Language (PJL).
The printer supports HP-GL/2 with both the Roman and the Japanese Kanji character sets (provided the Kanji ROM SIMM is fitted).

Recommended cables

Cable restrictions

Cable restrictions for the printer are determined by the type of interface being used. Recommendations for each interface are supplied in the following paragraphs.

RS-232-C interface

The use of short cables (each less than 15 meters or 50 feet) is recommended for the RS-232-C interface. A longer cable is permissible, provided the load capacitance does not exceed 2500 picofarads.

Centronics interface

The use of a short cable (less than 2 meters or 6.6 ft.) is recommended for the Centronics interface.

HP JetDirect interface card

HP recommends using industry standard and compliant cabling for the LocalTalk (serial and AppleTalk connections), RJ 45 (10Base-T), and BNC (10Base-2) ports. The longer the cable, the higher the quality required of that cable.

Interfaces and network information

The HP DesignJet 755CM printer has a bidirectional IEEE 1284 ECP - compliant parallel interface, an RS-232 serial (9-pin) interface, an HP-IB interface, and an HP JetDirect card or interface (part number J2552A) for Ethernet 10Base-T/BNC and LocalTalk preinstalled in the MIO expansion slot.
Following are network operating systems supporting the HP DesignJet 755CM printer:
Novell NetWare, Microsoft (R) LAN Manager for OS/2, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, Networking Windows NT, IBM LAN Server for OS/2, HP-UX, SunOS, Solaris, SCO UNIX (R), IBM AIX AT and TGIS, Tandem, MPE-ix, LANtpstJC Power Suite, and AppleTalk (EtherTalk and LocalTalk). Use in UNIX environments requires additional HP JetDirect software.

Performance

"Normal" printer use

"Normal" printer use means less than:
  • 20 pages per day (if medium-density E/A0 CAD plots)
OR
  • 10 pages per day (if medium-density E/A0 image prints)
If drawings are smaller than E/A0, the number of pages per day could be higher.
If the printer is being used less than this, it is unlikely it will need to be serviced. If the printer is being used more than this, it is possible that, after a time, it will need to be serviced. The printer itself keeps an internal count of total pages printed and total passes of the print cartridges. If the front panel periodically displays Status: Maintenance Advised, this means that the use of the printer has exceeded one of the following:
  • 20,000 pages printed
OR
  • 4,500,000 passes of the cartridge carriage.
Contact the local HP dealer or HP service engineer to arrange a service. After the service, the message will disappear. If the message is ignored, the printer may continue to be used as normal, but may meet a number of operational or print-quality problems.
The current count of the two statistics can be seen on the Service Configuration Plot.

To print the service configuration plot

  1. Verify that media is loaded.
  2. In the Full Menu mode choose Utilities.
  3. Choose Service Config.
    note:
The Service Configuration Plot or " Service config " was formerly known as the " Config plot " on the HP DesignJet 650C printers.
