HP Designjet Printers - Page Size Control When Using Inked Area, Software, or Best (ARCH, ISO, ANSI)
The difference between the front panel options for Inked Area, Software, and Best (ISO/JIS/ANSI/ARCH)--when each of these Page Size settings are used.
Listed below is an overview of each of the options, followed by general usage recommendations.
note:Some HP DesignJet printer models do not contain all of the options listed below.
Overview: This option takes the first object encountered in the plot and places that object at the origin (0,0 coordinate). After the last object is printed, the HP DesignJet printer adds the margin and the plot is complete. With Inked Area, white area around the plot, as well as page size information coming from the software, is ignored.
Recommendation: Select this option when using roll media and when centering is not important. This option also provides optimal paper usage.
note:With Inked area, software generated page size information is used when Queuing and Nesting plots, but is otherwise ignored by the printer.
Overview: This option causes the printer to accept page size information from the software. After receiving the page size, margins are added and the plot is printed. If roll media is used, the paper is cut to the dimensions provided by the software, plus the printer margins added at the HP DesignJet printer.
Recommendation: Select this option if you are using roll media and you have many odd page sizes to print. Remember that the printer margins are added to the software page size. This means that the cut page is larger than the software-defined page size.
Best size (ISO, ANSI, JIS, ARCH)
Overview: This option looks at the page size information coming from the software, adds the printer margins, and then finds the appropriate size to fit the plot. Therefore, if the software is sending the exact page size dimensions, the HP DesignJet printer adds the margins, which makes the page size jump to the next standard size.
Recommendation: Select this option if you are using roll media and you want your pages cut to exact sizes. Unlike Inked Area and Software options, the "Best" options cuts the page at exact page dimensions (ISO, ANSI, JIS, or ARCH). The printer automatically finds the best size based on the software page size information plus the printer margins.
