HP Color Inkjet CP1700 and HP Business Inkjet 1100 and 2600 Series Printers - Paper Jam Message Flashes With no Media in Media Path

Issue:
The paper jam error symbol flashes on the printer display and no paper is in the media path. This is sometimes referred to as a false paper jam.
Solution
The following solution can be used in troubleshooting:
Ensure no paper is in media path
  1. Open the top cover and look for any media that may be stuck in the printer.
  2. Remove the rear feeder/duplexer and check for media.
  3. If any paper is stuck in the media path, remove it and then turn off and turn on the printer.
Check paper sensor
  1. Open the top cover of the printer and remove the rear feeder/duplexer.
  2. Insert a piece of paper into the rear of the printer. The paper must be loaded just above the large paper feed rollers.
  3. Slide the paper all the way into the printer. The leading edge of the paper will stop at the paper drive roller.
  4. Locate the paper sensor on the right side of the paper path. It can be seen from the top of the printer with the cover open and has red, black, and blue wires attached to it. See Figure 1.

  5. Turn off the power, press down on the paper sensor to make sure it is snapped into the proper position, and then turn on the power.
  6. Slide the leading edge of the paper back and forth so the paper sensor flag can be seen moving.
    1. If the paper sensor flag is moving as the leading edge of the paper moves past the flag, turn the printer back on and see if the error is resolved.
    2. If the paper sensor flag is not moving, remove the paper, and gently press on the paper sensor flag with a small object such as a pen cap. Do not use the tip of a pencil or pen as this could damage the printer. Repeat Step 6 above to see if the flag is moving.
