HP Designjet Printers - AutoCAD 12/13, Running HPCONFIG gives Unknown Command Message
What can be done if after loading the AutoCAD drivers into AutoCAD 12/13, and typing HPCONFIG, AutoCAD generates the message: ‘Unknown Command’?
Search the computer for every instance of ACAD.ADS.
Verify the locations of the HPMPLOT.EXE file on the computer.
Edit the ACAD.ADS file or files and verify that the path given for the HPMPLOT.EXE file is correct. Add the path to both files if there are multiple ACAD.ADS files.
Reboot the computer and restart AutoCAD.
DETAILS: When the driver is loaded, the driver updates a file called ACAD.ADS which is located in the directory where AutoCAD is installed. The driver adds a line to this file that contains the path to a file called HPMPLOT.EXE for the Windows version or HPMPLOT.EXP for the DOS version. HPMPLOT.EXE is the application that runs under AutoCAD that contains the HPCONFIG command. If the application does not load, the command is not available. When AutoCAD starts up, it reads this ACAD.ADS file to see what applications it needs to load. Sometime AutoCAD will read an ACAD.ADS file that the driver did not update, meaning the computer may have more than one ACAD.ADS file on it.
